MAKER UPDATE #37-#38 | MY FIRST PAIR OF SOCKS

Welcome back to another maker update! Work life has been busy again, so I skipped a week, but I promise you I’ve used my time wisely. 😉 We can now welcome a new addition to the shop: the TEXTURIZADO scarf in ENERO mint green (finally)! I wrote a blogpost about the design here. In other news, my bare yarn shipment arrived and I’ve dyed up and sent out all Weekender sweater KAL yarn kits. I’m beyond excited to see some of you knit up their Weekenders in my yarn. Crazy! And finally, I’ve got a finished object…

NOT TO SPOIL THE FUN, BUT THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE MY FINISHED OBJECT

FNISHED OBJECTS

ANKLE SOCKS

The game of yarn chicken was very real (for what I had left, see picture below), but I managed to finish my first pair of socks from a single 50g ball of sock yarn! To be totally honest, I don’t know if sock knitting is my jam — I find it quite fiddly — but I’m stoked with the finished product. The only thing I would do differently next time is that I’ll use 2.25 mm needles (which I, in that case, still need to buy).

In any case, Jess made this pattern as simple as it could have been. And somehow I expected that to be reflected in the fit of the finished socks, but nooooo. They fit perfectly and are very warm and cozy. It’s still 29ºC around here, but I’m sure these are gonna bring me a lot of joy when the colder weather arrives and I’m cursing the fact that one doesn’t have central heating on subtropical islands.

TEJEDA SWEATER #2

I’m trying to get this one done before the end of the month, together with my testers, but I still have two sleeves to go. The body and collar are done now though, which means I could try it on. And I’m so. beyond. happy with this bloody thing! And so beyond proud of myself too. It’s crazy to see my own design come to life in my own yarn and to discover it’s exactly how I want it to be.

BENTAYGA HAT #4

As planned, this lil’ project is cast on and I’m more than halfway through! This should be the final version before writing up the pattern. Talking about patterns: if you wanna be pattern tester for this or future design(s), send me an e-mail at hello@chaintwenty.com. I’ll manually subscribe you to my testers e-mail list, so you’ll receive calls for testers whenever I’ve got a pattern finished. This doesn’t mean you must test knit all my patterns (ha, that would be rude!). You can just respond to these calls whenever a pattern comes along that speaks to you.

THE WEEKENDER SWEATER

Technically, my Weekender isn’t cast on yet while I’m writing this, but it probably will be when you’re reading this! Right now, I’m waiting for my second swatch to dry, because I didn’t get gauge with the recommended needles. I swatched again on smaller needles and I suspect that will do the job. For those of you who missed it, Lindsay and I are hosting a KAL for this pattern that kicked off yesterday! Read all about it in this blogpost.

FUTURE PROJECTS

WORSTED WEIGHT SWEATER

After dyeing all the Weekender kits, I was quite done with yarn dyeing for a while (there’s a reason I don’t aspire to be a full time yarn dyer, haha!), but I’m getting back to it soon. Then I’ll play around with some of my new dyes and hopefully come up with a new colorway for a new worsted weight sweater design. Which I’ll then have to dye a sweater’s quantity of. 😉

STATISTICS

No acquisitions again these couple of weeks, so I’ll dive straight into statistics. Don’t let them fool you though. They look like I’m doing really good, but in reality my home is taken over by bare yarns. ><

PLANS

Next week’s most important task is to finish that second TEJEDA. Which shouldn’t be a problem since I’m so in love with it. I also want to get the BENTAYGA done, so I have some finished objects to shoot and, therefore, Instagram content to share. Since I want to focus more on the fashion side of things on Instagram — and not share too many WIP photos — it’s difficult to create enough content to update everyday. But hey, quality over quantity, always! iIf I don’t have enough content, I’d rather not update daily.

Non-making-wise, I’m planning to write a blogpost about planning (haha). I get tons of questions about how I plan my days, tick off those to dos, and stay productive. So a blogpost about that is long overdue and I actually like to pay more attention to the organization / planning side of running a small business. Finally, I’ll send out at least one (and maybe two!) call(s) for testers, so that’s gonna be exciting. See you hopefully next week!
