MAKER UPDATE #20-#31 | THIS UPDATE IS IMPOSSIBLE

This Maker Update thing is not going well guys. I’ve got ELEVEN weeks of making to tell you about, because I simply haven’t found the time before to sit down and write a blogpost. That’s a bit due to the fact that I’ve been busy learning how to code my own WordPress theme! Somehow, it feels stupid to post a blogpost before my new selfmade theme is ready, but let’s face it: it’s prooobably gonna take a lifetime for me to actually code a theme that works, so here I am again in the meantime. ><

NEW: THE TEJEDA SWEATER! TELLING YOU MORE ABOUT IT BELOW.

If you wanna know what I’ve been up to, please follow along on Instagram, where I share bits and pieces of my day-to-day-life in more details. Plus, here you’ll find a little article on the hand dyed yarn I bought in Sevilla a while ago. Now let’s get to what I’ve been making (and I’ll try to keep it short this time).

IN HIBERNATION

DK WEIGHT SWEATER

I’ve made up my mind about this project: it’s time to frog it and use the yarn for a DK weight hat that I wanna introduce to the shop.

FINISHED OBJECTS

SALOBRE BLANKET #1

That last ball of yarn arrived and my first version of the SALOBRE blanket is DONE and listed in the shop for someone who wants to bundle up with a cloud. It was way too expensive to make (which is one of the reasons for altering the design) and I can only hope to earn back the money I spent on it, but I’d love to make someone happy with it!

YARN: LANA GROSSA LINEA PURA CASHSILK // COLOR: WHITE (#07)
NEEDLES: LANA GROSSA VARIO MESSING CIRCULARS // SIZE: 7 MM
PATTERN: SALOBRE BLANKET BY CHAIN TWENTY

NORDERNEY JUMPER

It’s not oversized enough for my taste, but this sweater turned out really professional-looking and the whole making proces was such a learning curve for me that I’m super happy I finished it anyway.

YARN: DROPS KARISMA MIX // COLOR: DARK BROWN (#056)
NEEDLES: LANA GROSSA VARIO MESSING CIRCULARS // SIZE: 3 MM, 4 MM
PATTERN: NORDERNEY BY ISABELL KRAEMER

TEJEDA SWEATER

My first ever garment design (that I’m actually stoked with) is DONE! Based off of the fit, I’ll tweak the pattern a bit and send it out to testers soon. I call for testers through e-mail because I’m keeping an e-mail list of people interested in test knitting. If you wanna be part of that list, shoot me an e-mail via hello@chaintwenty.com. Aaanyway, I ordered new yarn to knit a second version together with my testers. Literally cannot wait. 😐

YARN: U/KNIT TOPINAMBUR // COLORS: GREY, DENIM BLUE
NEEDLES: LANA GROSSA VARIO MESSING CIRCULARS // SIZE: 8 MM
PATTERN: CHAIN TWENTY (FORTHCOMING)

DOUBLE BRIM HAT

The second, very much more simple design of my own that I hope to release soon, is a DK weight double brim hat. That pattern is so straightforward that I’ll probably be offering it for free, but I hope to make this a nice staple piece to stock the shop with for fall. Unfortunately, I knit this first sample on too large a needle size. It’s a bit too loose on my head (and I’ve got quite a big head, haha!) and I find the fabric not sturdy enough. So I’m knitting it again on smaller needles.

YARN: CHAIN TWENTY FUERTE DK // COLORWAY: ANFI DEL MAR
NEEDLES: ADDINATURE CLICK OLIVE WOOD CIRCULARS // SIZE: 4.5 MM
PATTERN: CHAIN TWENTY (FORTHCOMING, PROBABLY)

WORKS IN PROGRESS

THE EASY ONE JUMPER

This is my travel project, so it only goes with me when I’m on a plane or in a car. I think I need to do another five centimeter before the body is done and then I’m off to sleeve island. Thoroughly enjoying the mindless stockinette though!

YARN: DROPS BABY MERINO // COLOR: #26 LIGHT OLD PINK
NEEDLES: LANA GROSSA MESSING CIRCULARS // SIZE: 3 MM
PATTERN: THE EASY ONE BY JOJI LOCATELLI

GUERNSEY WRAP

I’m so over this project, I really don’t enjoy it anymore. But I’m far passed the midway point now and besides, I always try to finish my projects, so I’ll definitely try to finish this one too. It may take a while though, ha.

YARN: KATIA BASIC MERINO // COLOR: BEIGE (#09)
THREAD: DROPS GLITTER // COLOR: GOLD (#01)
NEEDLES: PLASTIC STRAIGHTS // SIZE: 4 MM
PATTERN: GUERNSEY WRAP BY JARED FLOOD

ANKLE SOCKS

Can you believe I cast on my FIRST EVER pair of socks? I had one 50g ball of commercial sock yarn lying around, so I cast on Jess’s (@knitspleaseuk) ankle socks. I just knit the pattern as written, and I can’t believe how good the first sock (that’s almost finished) fits! My goal is to try a few different sock patterns and find my fave, but so far, I’ve been really enjoying this knit. I do think I’ll buy some 2.25mm needles though, because I find the fabric with 2.5mm needles a bit too loose. Pictures another time!

YARN: DROPS FABEL LONG PRINT // COLOR: SILVER-FOX (#602)
NEEDLES: DROPS PRO CLASSIC CIRCULARS // SIZE: 2.5 MM
PATTERNS: VANILLA ANKLE SOCKS BY KNITS PLEASE

TEXTURIZADO SCARF #2

Remember that easy-peasy-wardrobe-staple seed stitch scarf? I’m making another one out of my hand dyed yarn, with a thicker base, and in such a way that I don’t have to weave in ends! I plucked a skein of ENERO on SUAVE worsted out of the shop for it, and dyed two more skeins. 🙂

YARN: CHAIN TWENTY SUAVE WORSTED // COLORWAY: ENERO
NEEDLES: ADDINATURE CLICK OLIVE WOOD CIRCULARS // SIZE: 6 MM
PATTERN: CHAIN TWENTY (FORTHCOMING, PROBABLY)

DOUBLE BRIM HAT

I started frogging my DK weight sweater and knit a new version of the double brim hat that still needs a proper Spanish name.

YARN: CHAIN TWENTY FUERTE DK // COLORWAY: LAS PALMAS
NEEDLES: ADDINATURE CLICK OLIVE WOOD CIRCULARS // SIZE: 4 MM
PATTERN: CHAIN TWENTY (FORTHCOMING, PROBABLY)

FUTURE PROJECTS

TEJEDA SWEATER #2

Waiting for my bare yarn order to arrive here, so I can dye up some and knit this again out of my own yarn!

ACQUISITIONS

LANA Y TELAR

I’ve added some new souvenir yarn to the stash! These two skeins of sport weight merino wool are naturally dyed by such a kind (male!) dyer in Sevilla who welcomed me in his dye dungeon / studio. Read the whole story here.

YARN: LANA Y TELAR RECORD // COLORWAYS: CEBOLLA 1, MENTA 2

CHAIN TWENTY SUAVE WORSTED

For the new TEXTURIZADO scarf, I dyed up two extra skeins of ENERO on SUAVE worsted.

PLANS

Like you’ve probably noticed from the changes going on in my shop and Instagram feed, I’m gonna focus more on knitwear in the shop. Knitwear from my own designs and in my own hand dyed yarns. Therefore, that double brim hat, TEXTURIZADO scarf and TEJEDA sweater are the projects that deserve most attention now. I do kinda always wanna have a sock on the go too though, just because I’ve got all this souvenir yarn now that I’d love to turn into Azores socks, Dublin socks, Sevilla socks… wouldn’t that be fun?
