MAKER UPDATE #2 + #3 | I WANT MY WIPS TO BE FINISHED!

So far for New Year’s resolutions and planning to write a Maker Update weekly, or at least bi-weekly. It’s Tuesday, and I still owe you an update on last week and the week before. But here it is! Shop-wise, it’s been quite a busy and successful month so far. Knit-wise, not so much. I still have the same projects on the needles as last time I updated, even though I really, really, really want to have them finished. Progress has been made though, let’s get to it.

FINISHED OBJECTS

LA CAFETERÍA #3

Last Saturday was shop update day, and besides quite a bunch of hand dyed yarns, I added another set of La Cafetería coasters. In black, this time! I’m really loving making these sets, and the bigger the stack becomes, the better they look. I’ve planned to make another set and write up the pattern, so stay tuned if you’re interested.

HAND DYED YARNS

I need a second cook pot, and a second soaking tub, and a swift for God’s sake (pardon my French), because I’ve been dyeing a lot for this shop update, and half if it sold already! Those of you who ordered — you know who you are — thanks a million, really! It means so much to me to properly be in business, selling stuff I made and love, to people who love it too. I’m thinking about adding dyed-to-order yarn listings to the shop, so customers can choose their preferred base and colorway. But first, I need to restock my bare yarns!

WORKS IN PROGRESS

SALOBRE BLANKET PATTERN

No updates on this project, because testers are still testing! I’ll receive their feedback at the end of this month (nervous)!

NORDERNEY JUMPER

Some if you may have seen on Instagram that I tried finishing this huge project last week. Well, that failed miserably, HAHA. I stitched and hustled through the body, but then I had so many tasks piling up on my to do list that I had to stop working on it. It still needs two sleeves. But the good news is that I was able to try it on now, and it looks pretty promising! Can’t wait to see how it’ll block out.

GUERNSEY WRAP

This project has seen some love over the last few days, but I’ve gotta face the facts: I won’t have enough yarn. Not even nearly enough. I guess I’ll knit on until I’m running out, and then the project will be hibernating until I allow myself to get new yarn. (Because: first out, then in.)

SPAGHETTI STRAP TOP

Yesss, I’ve knitted through the first skein of Las Palmas DK and ooooh, the joy of knitting with my own yarn! I really love how the colorway knits up. Unfortunately, I accidentally put twice as much dye in the pot when I dyed up my second skein, which is now much darker (alsmost as dark as Arena Volcánica). I decided to go with it anyway, alternating skeins before definitely switching to the darker one, just to see how that works out. It’s obvious, of course, but I must say I’m quite pleased with the effect. And now I’m totally sure that if I alternate between two skeins of the same colorway (of which one isn’t such a huge misfit as this one), it will look perfect!

FUTURE PROJECTS

CHUNKY SWEATER

No work on starting this project. I’ve got to finish one of my WIPs first.

HAND DYED YARNS

Gotta order myself all the bare yarns ASAP and start dyeing up everything that has sold so I can restock the shop in the next update (February 5th). Did I mention I have a new base? It’s a 75% SW merino + 25% tussah silk DK, and it’s quite gorgey, look:

LAS PALMAS DK MISFIT

Like I said, I made a huge dye mistake and ended up, accordingly, with a huge Las Palmas misfit, haha. It’s getting a lot of love anyway!

PLANS

This week will probably become quite a mess, because I’m planning a last-minute trip to The Netherlands. If I get things done, it should be getting those WIPs off the needles! Also, I’m waiting for a fun printed-project-tote-bags-package to arrive, so I can prepare them to get listed in the shop. If I find time, I hope to write up the pattern for La Cafetería and start working on a new kind of product that I’ll tell you more about soon. For now, happy (mid)week!
