KNITTING UPDATE #48 + #49 | LIFE GETTING IN THE WAY OF THREE BIG WIPS

These last couple of weeks was a mess. I had so many plans, but then we went to the vet with our cat for her usual vaccinations and she turned out to be (very probably) carrying a virus. The next day we went to test our kitty, but he’s fine (for now). We will only know for sure in three months, but the news has been messing with my brain since, and the work flow I created last time I updated has disappeared entirely. I’m not sure why, but every time I feel like I’m getting my shit together, the universe conspires against me and fucks everything up. It has been quite discouraging and I wasn’t in the mood for an update last week. However, I’m trying my best to get back in the swing of things and I’ve got some stuff to show for it too. So let’s talk making now!

WALL ART

I kinda didn’t say anything about this at all, but I knit up my ten test samples (from when I first started hand dyeing) into a piece of wall art! From the beginning, I wanted to make something to frame, just because these are my first hand dyed yarns, but I couldn’t quite fiqure out how to do it. I’m not one for color (you probably know that by now), and I don’t like putting different colorways together. So I wanted a texture in which all the colors would mix and mingle with one another as much as possible. This technique I found on Pinterest and now I just can’t let it go. So I made another piece of wall art with scrap yarn. And now I wanna make all the wall art and scrap blankets and coasters (and I’m going to too).

WORKS IN PROGRESS

SALOBRE BLANKET #1 + #2 + PATTERN

Salobre #1 is still in hibernation until I receive more yarn, Salobre #2 is halfway done, woohoo! I did make a mistake in the texture pattern though, which will take quite some time to fix. I just have to sit my ass down and do it.

NORDERNEY JUMPER

This project needed a little too much brain capacity, so I let it sit for a little while. But I’m back at it in full force: I’ve joined in the round and now it’s just knit-knit-knit. Kind of playing with the idea of finishing this in time for Christmas?

COASTERS

I figured my wall art pattern is actually perfect for coasters and plate holders! So I’ve started to knit up a couple of coasters. They aren’t done yet and the second is already an update based on the first (how come simple patterns like this can still be perfected in so many ways?), so I don’t know when (and if) they’ll be shop worthy… I’ll keep you posted though!

GUERNSEY WRAP

Fi-nal-ly, I casted on my Guernsey wrap. I officially labeled this my Christmas project, so I’m knitting the beige merino together with gold sparkly thread. It’s such a cool effect, I’m totally in love with it, even though I kinda regret not using grey or black yarn. But hey, I will always regret that when I’m not using grey or black yarn, so nothing new there. Besides, a maker needs to expand her horizon a little every now and then, right? In order to include other exciting neutrals, Merel? Yes, I’m experimental like that.

I must admit that the gold thread is slowing me down considerably. And I’m using this project to practice my continental knitting and norwegian purling, so it was already a slow project to begin with. It just doesn’t wanna go where it should be going, and I’ve got a lot of loose gold loops. Switching back to English knitting doesn’t help either. Not that it really matters, the gold thread is just there to blend in with the fabric and be sparkly and Christmassy, but it still annoys my perfectionist brain from time to time.

FUTURE PROJECTS

I haven’t updated Ravelry in a while, which is the place where I plan my projects, so I don’t really know what my next projects are going to be. There’s still time, because all my current WIPs are time-consuming ones, but I still wanna sit down soon and do some project planning. I may have to do that offline though, because many patterns I’ve been eyeballing are not on Ravelry. Besides, my Bullet Journal is in need of a new type of spread. 😉

Am I going to knit this, ever?

ACQUISITIONS

CHAIN TWENTY LAS PALMAS DK

Yesssssss, I dyed up a DK weight skein in Las Palmas for me, myself and I! Finally! Creating that wall art piece really made me want to knit with my own yarn (duh), so this one is reserved for a future pattern sample. It will need two skeins, but I had more to dye for the shop, so the second skein will have to wait.

STATISTICS

Since my wall art was made out of scraps, I can’t count any out-of-stash-yarn for it. I’m not really sure, but I think I’ll have to finish all my WIPs before the new year (and not get any new yarn) to save myself from having to de-stash haha! No worries though, I kinda like the idea of a de-stash too.

PLANS

I’ve got major shop update plans for the 20th, since last one was so meager. I want to have the Salobre blanket #2 finished, as well as some coasters. And I would love to introduce a new product, such as a new type of stitch markers, or maybe project bags, we’ll see! Furthermore, I’d love to get put a large dent in both my Norderney jumper and my Guernsey wrap. Here’s to hoping next week won’t bring new bad surprises!
