KNITTING UPDATE #44 | SHOP THINGS ARE MOVING FORWARD

November already! This will be my first Winter on Gran Canaria and it’s still so sunny and lovely outside that I feel like it’s August. However, the realization that Christmas is next month really makes me feel rushed. Not because of gift knitting deadlines or custom gift orders, but because I set myself some goals for this year when it comes to Chain Twenty, and when I don’t meet them, I’ll have to start looking for a job. And Chain Twenty will be a side thing again. 🙁 BUT, this week I celebrated (three!) physical orders again: I sold both hand dyed yarn and knitwear. So shop things are moving forward pretty fast all of sudden, and I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am with that. In the meantime, I’m starting to prepare for the next shop update of November 20th.

Finished objects

Oh no, I really wanted to have finished something this week, but somehow I didn’t. I’m still working on the same projects as last week, but I did make a lot of progress though!

Works in progress

Salobre blanket + pattern

My dad is visiting this week, and he brought me all the yarn I need to finish this project, finally! Something Emily (@thebluemouse) posted a few days ago really resonated with me, especially when it comes to this project: she said she tries to knit through a complete skein of yarn to keep a project going. And that’s exactly what I’m doing here too. It’s hard to see progress on large projects like blankets, but knitting up a ball of yarn per sitting / day helps me to feel accomplished anyway. It also helps estimating how long it’s still gonna take to finish. I wanna list this blanket in the next shop update, so I better keep knitting!

El Tablero headband pattern

I wanted to have this pattern sent out to testers, but it didn’t happen. Somehow, I couldn’t find the brain power this week to add the final touches. But it’s on top of my to do list for this week, because the pattern should be tested and finalized by November 20th as well.

Marpha sweater

The front and back panel are seamed together, and I’ve knitted the neckline! I made it a couple of rows higher than the pattern calls for, I hope that works out once I’m wearing it. I still have to check the length of the sleeves and then seam the rest together.

Spaghetti strap top

This has quickly become one of my fave projects at the moment. Maybe that’s because I’m working on the body, which is just plain stockinette and I love that. But anyway, I’m almost done with the body now, and then I’ll have to sit down and further design the neckline shaping. Even though I love designing, I find it takes a lot of concentration and time, both of which I do not often allow myself to indulge in. Which is stupid. I hope to tackle this neckline on paper soon!

Future projects

Yarn dyeing

Yay, I’ve sold yarn! Which means I can dye up more for the shop! I’m thinking of making Las Palmas (the grey-black variegated) a regular colorway, so I’ll be making more of that. I’m also gonna introduce a very cool DK weight workhorse wool / nylon blend, so stay tuned for that. AND, there will be a yarny giveaway to celebrate all of this, so keep an eye on my insta too!

Norderney jumper

Pablo the cat got a hold of two balls of yarn designated to this project and now it’s one big mess, haha! Ah well, I’m not starting it anytime soon anyway, I suppose.

Pappus pullover

I won’t be starting this project anytime soon either, but in the meantime I do feel very content about the fact that I found a purpose for my Drops Baby Merino. Haha, isn’t it funny how the brain works? The previous Knitting Update showed pictures of this (and the next) pattern, in case you’re curious!

Guernsey wrap

Ooh la la, I received some of the yarn I purchased with this project in mind, and it’s really lovely. I was thinking, since it’s getting cooler around here, and I’m already wearing scarves sometimes, it would be so much fun to make this my Christmas scarf! I’m not doing any gift knitting for others anyway, so why not gift knit for myself, right? 😉 I bought a dark beige colored merino (see below) and some gold thread and I think together, they will look both neutral and festive. Now I kinda can’t wait to cast on!

Acquisitions

Lana Grossa Linea Pura CashSilk

The last four balls of yarn to finish my Salobre blanket with! I’m hoping I won’t need all of them, but I just ordered enough to be on the safe side.

Drops Glitter Gold

These two teeny tiny skeins of gold thread have a total of 1400 meters! Can you believe that? That’s actually a sweater quantity haha!

Katia Basic Merino

I just wanted something cheap that still has mainly wool content, is machine washable, and comes in lovely colors and I think Katia’s Basic Merino ticks all those boxes and is a perfect allrounder. I got five balls, which translates to 600 meters and that is probably not enough to finish my Guernsey wrap. I didn’t wanna spend too much money though, especially not on a yarn I’ve never tried before. I’ll just order more if I need it!

Statistics

This not going so well. I know I’ll be back on track once I finish that Salobre blanket, but I’ve got more yarn for a collab coming in too, soooooo… I’m thinking of selling a part of my stash through Etsy at the end of the year if I haven’t been able to decrease its size. Not that I have a huge stash at the moment (it fits in a single, small, six-drawer cabinet), but I think it’s ridiculous to have much more yarn than I can possibly knit at the same time. #minimalism 😉

Plans

Over the next couple of days, I’ll probably be quite busy roadtrippin’ the island with my dad. After that, it’s all about finishing that Marpha sweater and El Tablero headband pattern (for real this time). Besides, there are extra non-Knitting-Update blogposts coming, a giveaway (like I said), and a super cool collab that I’ll (hopefully) be able to tell you more about next week!
