KNITTING UPDATE #41 + #42 | TRYING TO KEEP UP

We all have these moments. When we feel like we’re running after ourselves, trying to keep up with life’s pace. At least that’s me right now. My trip to The Netherlands, which I mentioned in my previous update, was quicky followed by a trip of my best friends to me, in Gran Canaria. We’ve had loads of quality time together, which is good, but carving out time to work on Chain Twenty has proven quite difficult. As many of you know, a handmade business takes an incredible amount of time, and combining it with having friends over fulltime is simply not possible. So that’s why I have been a little quiet, but just know it was for fun reasons! All the work I did got done mainly involved my latest shop update, which was / is super exciting! So read on if you’re interested.

Shop update

The shop has been updated and it finally starts to look like something, don’t you agree?! I shifted Chain Twenty’s business direction somewhat: from selling only modern handmade knitwear, to selling stuff related to knitting as a craft. In short, Chain Twenty’s goal is not only to show that handmade knitwear can be modern & minimal, but also that knitting itself can be. Therefore, I’ve started selling my own hand dyed yarns in neutral colorways (more about that below), and minimalistic progress keepers with golden pendants (more about that in my previous update). Honestly, I couldn’t be more excited, and that some of my progress keepers already sold makes me so so so happy! <3

Mini basket #2

Sooo, I don’t know why I’m hubris like that, but I thought I could make some changes to Megan’s (@darlingbebrave) pattern that would make the mini basket look better. Even though Megan has been making these baskets for years. Anyway, I tried it out, it didn’t look better. Should’ve known that beforehand haha! It still ended up being a super pretty basket, and it was fun to play around with its dimensions as well (I made it smaller and higher than the one in the pattern). Basket #1 now serves to hold the remote controls of our lamps, #2 to hold coins. I want to make another one in the future for nail polish bottles or something like that. So handy!

El Tablero headband #3

Yes! I finally got round to knitting up a third El Tablero headband, while photographing all the different steps for the pattern. It’s listed in the shop too, and I reduced shipping prices somewhat! All the wins this week you guys. <3

Hand dyed yarn

Proudest achievement to date: I hand dyed yarn. And it turned out great. And it was so much fun. And I feel like I’ve got a new hobby now. And I’m gonna dye myself all the yarn I would ever need in a lifetime. Anyway, I split up a 100g skein of BFL into ten 10g mini skeins and tried all kinds of dye techniques (click here for the result). Then I tried to recreate my faves on full sized skeins, which didn’t always turn out the way I imagined, but they are all so lovely. Available in the shop now are:

Zigzag blanket + pattern

No progress on this one, unfortunately, but I’ll get back to it soon!

YARN: LANA GROSSA LINEA PURA CASHSILK // COLOR: WHITE (#07)
NEEDLES: LANA GROSSA VARIO MESSING CIRCULARS // SIZE: 7 MM
PATTERN: ZIGZAG BLANKET BY CHAIN TWENTY (FORTHCOMING)

El Tablero headband pattern

Idem. 😉

Marpha sweater

The back panel is done, which is a huge relief, because I was kinda over the five balls of yarn that I had to work with simultaneously. So I did both sleeves to give myself a break, and those flew off the needles. I still have both on some spare 8mm needles, because I may wanna make them longer, depending on how wide the body turns out. Now it’s time for the front panel and some color work again. I’m ready, bring it on!

Future projects

San Agústin facecloth set

I’ve got the color work design ready, so I’m really curious to see how this will go. It may end up being a total disaster, but I hope to bring you good news next week. 😀

Classic vest #2

There are so many projects on my needles lately that need my full attention, a laptop, plenty of space, or whatever, and this one is no exception. I first need to sit down, redesign my previous Classic vest, do the maths, write up the pattern, frog the yarn from another project, and maybe then I can finally start knitting. I think that’s what prevented me from having it on the needles by now. I’ll get there in the end!

YARN: DROPS COTTON LIGHT UNI // COLOR: JEANS BLUE (#26)
NEEDLES: LANA GROSSA LALA BERLIN CIRCULARS // SIZE: 3.5 MM
PATTERN: REDESIGNED VERSION OF THE CLASSIC VEST BY JESS JOHNSON (KNITS PLEASE)

Norderney jumper

This is not gonna be knit anytime soon, so I think I’ll just leave it out of my Knitting Updates from now on, haha.

PATTERN: NORDERNEY BY ISABELL KRAEMER

Planning

We’ve got another visitor coming over next week, so I’m hoping to get AS MUCH Chain Twenty stuff done as possible. This includes putting a major dent in that Salobre blanket (’cause I finally wanna list it in the shop in November) and finishing up that headband pattern. I also wanna get back to writing blogposts other than Knitting Updates. So yeah, I better get going, see you next week!
