KNITTING UPDATE #38 | LOTS OF THINGS TO CELEBRATE

Last week has been one for the Happy History Books (not that I keep those, but if I did, last week would be a chapter in it). I did a shop update, published my first pattern, made my first sales, hosted a giveaway, gained a lot of new followers… just yay! Thank you guys all so much for supporting me throughout this journey, I’m so happy with how things are progressing lately! This is gonna be a looong post, so I better get started.

WOOL AND THE GANG PROJECTS TO GET STARTED ON!

Finished objects

Shop update

No knitting FOs this week, but I think I can call a shop update a legitimate finished object (or finished project) as well, right? I’m happy (and proud!) to announce that the shop is now restocked with new ready-to-ship San Agústin facecloth sets, two brand new ready-to-ship El Tablero headbands, and the instant-download San Agústin facecloth pattern (which is also available on Ravelry)! And I’m even more happy (and proud!) to be able to say that I made my first five sales! It’s such a surreal feeling to make money with what still feels like a hobby (despite the hours of work that go into it), I couldn’t be more excited for the future!

To celebrate, I’ve got a giveaway going on on Instagram, where you can win the yarn (of your color choice) and pattern to make yourself a San Agústin facecloth set! Make sure to join (link below) if you’re in for a fun little project.

Business cards / labels

It’s no knitting, but it’s quite a stack of finished objects nonetheless: my business cards slash labels! Remember I ordered a logo stamp a while back? Well, I bough some sturdy paper, cut that into labels, stamped away, added some tape and made holes. Simple (and cheap) as that, and I love their simultaneous professional and handmade look.

Frogged failures

I’m adding this new category to my knitting updates, because frogging happens quite a lot over here. I’m not sad or disappointed about that, because every frogged project served its purpose and taught me something. It’s never a loss! Plus, I can reuse the yarn for something new!

One Stop crop top

This week, I made up my mind and decided to frog my One Stop crop top. The armholes are turning out too small for me, and there’s no way I can fix it in an easy way that will leave me with a top I’m happy with. So yeah. #frogfrogfrog

Works in progress

Zigzag blanket

Our friends brought me four new balls of Cashsilk, and I’ve already knitted one of them up into this cloud-blanket. The progress keeper in the picture marks the progress I made since I last showed it to you. It’s turning out so gorgey porgey, I can’t wait to finish it and list it in the shop. I’ve also started working on the pattern, but it’s quite difficult to retrieve how I did it exactly. So I’m writing it up as best as I can and will correct everything while knitting another test sample once this blanket is finished (a.k.a. a long time from now). Bear with me please, haha!

Classic vest

This project has seen no love this week, which is quite okay, since I worked so religiously on it the week before. I will get back to it very soon though!

Lucky Star tank

And we can put all the blame for the minimal progress on my other projects on the arrival (finally!) of my Wool and the Gang Lucky Star tank knit kit collaboration! Such a mouthful. It took two packages and almost four weeks for it to arrive here in Gran Canaria, thanks to the pre-modern-times Spanish postal system, but WatG was most helpful and it got here after all.

If you know me even a liiiiitle bit, you probably already guessed what my favorite WatG yarn is: yes yes YES, shiny happy cotton in 101 spots of corso! I mean, it has Chain Twenty writting all over it, doesn’t it? And since I’m still in my Summer-knitting-mojo, I chose to make a looseygoosey tank top.

At first, I wanted to knit it exactly as the pattern describes: flat and on wooden straights. However, after swatching I decided to do it differently after all. I absolutely loved WatG’s wooden needles, and I didn’t yet have any 6.5 mm needles in my stash, so I’m really happy with them too, but I found the fabric I was getting too gappy (is that a word?). So I swatched again with 5 mm needles and that left me with a much tighter fabric, which I love. It’s just a personal preference, but I like my clothes to feel a little sturdy and thick instead of drapey and flowy, so I went with the 5 mms.

I did the maths and concluded that if I knit the size large, I should end up with size small/medium. Then I also adjusted the pattern to be knit in the round, with faux side seams. Sooooo yeah, haha, I changed quite a lot and desperately hope I have enough yarn. The body is completely done now, so I’ve got only the shoulders left to do. Hopefully this will be a finished (and wearable) object next week, eeks!

El Tablero headband + pattern

The yarn is here, so I can knit up my sample headband for the (free) pattern. The headband itself will be listed as a ready-to-ship item in my next shop update. My next update will hopefully be on October 20th, but then I also want to list my Zigzag blanket, so that one has priority. We’ll see when I get to this little project!

Progress keepers

I have to wait until I’m in The Netherlands next month, because I shipped my supplies there, but ah mennn, all of a sudden I can’t wait to make all the progress keepers?

Marpha sweater

Something else to celebrate: We Are Knitters asked me to collaborate! Who says no to that? I know I don’t. 😉 I was actually eyeballing their Marpha sweater, from their latest collection, for a little while now, because I’ve always wanted to try geometric color work. Actually, if you follow me from the beginning, you might remember an outfit post in which I was wearing a sweater with almost exactly this geometric design. In there, I’m telling you how I’m busy designing such a sweater in knitting, which obviously never happened, but now I’ve got the chance!

I had a really difficult time choosing colors, but in the end decided to go with both a very-much-Chain-Twenty-color (Spotted Grey) as well as some very-much-out-of-my-comfort-zone-colors (Nude and Peach). The kit is actually already waiting for me in The Netherlands, yasss!

Norderney jumper

I’ve added this jumper to my Raverly queue in case I ran out of anything to knit, which PROBABLY won’t happen anytime soon. So this pattern will have to wait quite some time.
