KNITTING UPDATE #28 | UNEXPECTEDLY MUCH KNITTING TIME

Wow, this week went totally different than planned. I wrote my previous update at the airport while waiting for my delayed flight to The Netherlands. Turned out the flight got cancelled and I was back in my own bed that same night. It has caused me a lot of trouble with Transavia (my airline), who still haven’t agreed on a compensation yet (sigh), but it has also provided me with a lot of unexpected knitting time. And that’s always a good thing. I also finally shot all the product photos for the San Agústin facecloths that will hit the shop on Thursday (already)! So, it looks like I’m finally getting on top of things. Ha, that was about time.

Finished objects

Boxy sweater

Strictly, this isn’t a finished object at all. However, I’m calling it quits on this project. It’s been on the needles for too long and I’ve learned so much new techniques in the meantime that I’m not happy with the design anymore. I did finish the first sleeve, to see if that would get me back into liking it, but no. Despite the shaping being a little off, I’m not liking how the 1×1 rib is turning out. So why work on it any longer? It wasn’t all for nothing though. I have a clear view of the changes I would like to make, so I’m far from done with this design.

Works in progress

Zigzag scarf

This is probably the only project that didn’t benefit from my cancelled flight. I did work a few more rows on it though, just to give it some love. And I’ve got some new ideas to play with the texture again. I went from small zigzags to larger zigzags, to just diagonal lines, but now I wanna try something more intricate that I’ll probably have to write up first. I’m hoping this test knit will eventually inspire a textured blanket design, ’cause I kinda miss monotonous blanket knitting. To be able to track my progress, it actually may be handy to note the length it has reached this week, which is 77 cm.

Mae tunic

Oh, tragedy. After finishing the bottom hem last week, I started on the short rows, made a couple of mistakes, and frogged the whole thing. I’m really bad at recovering or fixing stitches, so this was the only solution. Not planning on making the same mistake again though, so I knitted the hem again and put in a lifeline. Then I started the short rows again, did it completely right this time, and fell in love with the technique. I’m now ready to start knitting completely in the round again. Up until now, this has been such a satisfying knit (not counting the frogging)!

Future projects

Twisted headband

Like I said last week, I’ve found a couple of headband patterns on Etsy that I like to try out. Hopefully, that will give me some inspiration for a headband design of my own, which will hopefully be my next shop item! I don’t know why I haven’t cast this project on already, but it’s probably the first thing I’ll be doing after this blogpost goes live. 😉

One Stop crop top

For a few days, it’s been over 30 degrees Celsius here, so I’m desperate for some Summer knits. Recently (like 5 minutes ago), I found this awesome crop top pattern that’s just right up my alley. I’m not one to show off a lot of skin, but this would be perfect for in and around the house. Or in combination with something high waisted. We’ll see how it turns out!

Acquisitions

Even though I still have too much yarn, I feel like my options are getting more and more limited. That’s probably a good thing, because that means I’ve assigned projects to most of my yarns. There’s nothing new this week again, but I’ll definitely start some online yarn browsing soon.

In: 0
Out: 0 (the yarn of the Boxy sweater doesn’t count, because I’ll probably reuse that)

In since week 26: 0
Out since week 26: 5 // 5x Drops Paris

I hope to make at least one twisted headband this week and make a lot of progress on my Mae tunic. But I have no idea how things will go, because on Thursday Chain Twenty’s shop opens and I’ve probably forgotten about a million adminny things. We’ll see what happens! Excited though. 😐
