If you’re getting sick of seeing these photos and hearing me ramble on about my latest design, I’m sorry. It’s just that I’m really, really excited about it! The TEJEDA sweater is my first ever garment design that I’m truly happy with — many earlier garments got frogged relentlessly — so I guess it’s worth celebrating. (Not that I need anything to celebrate to drink wine on a beach.) Anyway, today I share some bits and pieces about how this design came to be.
For those of you who aren’t subscribed to my newsletter (seriously, where have you been, get yourself over here)(haha, just kidding), or for those of you who missed the memo on Instagram, I’m writing this post today to collect all the info about the #TheWeekenderSweaterKAL that Lindsay (@bundlehandmade) and I are co-hosting! Because yes, Fall is upon us! Not that I need an excuse to knit a gorgeous sweater like Andrea Mowry’s The Weekender… If you feel the same, read on.
Chain Twenty’s knitwear collection has taken more and more shape this week, which I’m super happy about! I announced a new hat design called BENTAYGA and am almost finished with the second TEXTURIZADO scarf, that’s now knit out of my own yarn. Once that’s all done, I’ll do my first proper knitwear shop update. In the meantime, I’m also working on that TEJEDA sweater pattern that you’re all so excited about (thank you, thank you!) and my new bare yarns are on their way to me too. Here’s the full list of what I’ve been up to!
Fiber friends in warm climates can probably relate: good yarn is hard to come by. On the Canaries, commercial yarn shops are rare and hand dyed yarn shops are simply nonexistent. Therefore, I always try to grab some souvenir yarn whenever I’m traveling somewhere I might have better luck. Like that time I went to visit a friend in Dublin and came home with this beautiful skein of Olann’s Sock Lite.
I don’t even know where to begin, that’s how long I haven’t spoken to you guys. Six weeks of making to catch up on through this blogpost series, woah! Many things have happened: I traveled, I ordered new supplies, I ordered stuff to pick up my lingering WIPs with, I started new designs… to be honest, I feel quite overwhelmed lately. A couple of days ago, I went to a presentation about starting an online business. I didn’t hear anything I didn’t already know, but it did give a kick in the butt to get out there and make my business grow. Good things don’t always come to those who wait, you have to go after it yourself sometimes. But anyway, let me talk about what I’ve been making!
So far so good when it comes to the maker routine! After a year of experimenting, with ups and downs, I finally feel like I’ve found the layout of a making schedule that works for both me and the boyfriend. It basically consists of five work days, and four weekend days, the weekend days being reserved for being creative for the sake of it (which is, as you may all know, the engine behind handmade small businesses). Anyway, without boring you with the details, it seems to be the perfect balance between work and off-time, and I also seem to get most of what I wanna do done. Hope it stays this way!
So, well, my blogging schedule has pretty much been non-existing these days. But nevermind, I’m catching up (again) today with a Maker Update of the last three (!) weeks. A lot happened: I went on another holiday, got a needle disaster, put projects in hibernation and started new ones, and dived into the rabbit hole that is called watercoloring. Read on if you’re curious. 🙂
Welcome back y’all! I’ve been on a 3-week hiatus due to traveling, but I’m back, and glad so! For those of you interested, the boyfriend and I went island hopping on the Azores! It was a totally different holiday experience than we were both used to (it included hiking shoes, rain jackets, and back packs #justsayin), but it was ah… wait for it …mazing! Watching too much HIMYM these days, can you tell? This is not the place to share stories and pictures, but check out my personal Instagram account @merelymerel if you’re curious. Anyway, what I’m getting at is that all I did was travel knitting. 😉 BUT it’s also shop update day today, so read on for info about that!
Broken record alarm! Besides the things I made / did for yesterday’s shop update, there’s really not that much to tell making-wise. I went on a last minute trip to The Netherlands (hence the not-update last week) and didn’t take any knitting with me. I know, WEIRD. Maybe I have some kind of knitting apathy. I didn’t wanna take any of my current projects (because: too much brainpower), but then I didn’t know what new project to start. So I thought I’d try sock knitting for the first time, but I wasn’t sure if that would be as mindless for me as it is for others (because: sock knitting newbee) and I was also afraid my needles would be taken away from me by airport security. So yeah. Knitless vacay in The Netherlands it was. I did read a lot though (I can totally recommend reading Life of Pi if you haven’t already). Anyhow, here’s an update that’s mostly about shop stuff!
So far for New Year’s resolutions and planning to write a Maker Update weekly, or at least bi-weekly. It’s Tuesday, and I still owe you an update on last week and the week before. But here it is! Shop-wise, it’s been quite a busy and successful month so far. Knit-wise, not so much. I still have the same projects on the needles as last time I updated, even though I really, really, really want to have them finished. Progress has been made though, let’s get to it.
